The Watch — My Side Project

While Parchment is still of course my focus, I’ve been working on another (still using the Artifact Engine) game when I want to get away from it; say hello to The Watch. In The Watch, you and your friends will create a fantasy city’s Night Watch (or Day Watch; who am i to stop you?), a (reasonably) large pool of Trope-defined characters. There’s a link to a TVTropes article within the document, though you can likely come up with a few yourself.  An example of a few Watchmen is going to appear at the end of the document, so you can expect to have  something for a first session if you just want to try the system out. I will likely be releasing a setting document for it later on, though feel free to try and drop it in to any city you want to. It would likely work well for small one-shot or mini-arc (still only a few sessions long) mysteries, which should work well for a West Marches style game, with a few players from a wider pool turning up and grabbing their characters then and there.

Play-by-Post Playtesting

Right now Parchment is in a reasonably playtestable state, at least in my opinion. While of course I'm always eager for others to try it out or GM it for their home game, I'm running one of my own too. I'm using a play-by-text site to do it, called Rolegate . Try it out, it's good! Anyway, here are the Player Characters - you might recognise some of them from the sample characters in the docs! Player names on the left: Varyesha: Elphaba, a Paranoid Necromancer, possessing a spellbook featuring: Complex, Runic, and Eldritch. Apa: Tristan! A Hedonistic Illusionist, with the spell tags of: Enticing, Elaborate, and Extravagant. Halfling: Azzak.A Tattooed Elementalist, following a desert theme, with options to cast more Robust, Heated, or Luminous spells. Hege: Yvaine, a Charming Witch, who makes spells that are Manipulative, Cursing, and capable of Divining more information, through augury and visions. Josh: Aviel Dreamer, a Quick-Thinking Saboteur, with the Mech

Welcome to Artifact Engineering

Welcome!         Hey there! Welcome to Artifact Engineering. This blog is going to follow the development of my tabletop RPG system, Artifact. It works with a free-form, tag-based system to give players the ability to design their character how they see fit. My current project, Parchment , takes this framework and applies it to a fantasy setting. Parchment features a number of other mechanics, including a simple and soft spellcasting system. Right now it features character creation, the aforementioned spell system, an explanation of tags and a guide on how to use them, and a full suite of example characters. A link to Parchment if anyone would be interested:  https://docs.google.com/document/d/1ijn6636Y_pqrBRxBD4auK2TFYD0UB-J1vyLdIXHkLYs/edit?usp=sharing Feel free to leave feedback on here or on the doc, though that's all for today!
